Logopedy is the study of the verbal and non verbal speech ; every patient is considered in his global nature.

Its range of action is very wide, addressing children, teenagers, adults and the elderly. Speech therapists will provide their patients with specific and adapted care.

Logopedy and neurology :

If everyone can, at each moment of his/her life, be confronted with some pathology and its consequences, he or she must have the same communication rights as other people. We thus try hard to help the patient throughout a difficult therapeutic course that mixes discouragement and the hope of recovering good communication skills and finding his/her place in the society. Patients are sent to our consultation after an cerebral vascular accident (thrombosis, break of aneurysm), a car accident, a cranial traumatism, an ablation of a brain tumour or simply after the presence of degenerative neurological diseases (Parkinson's disease, Chorea of Huntington, multiple sclerosis, etc.). The treatment will often be long breath and the therapy will focus on the oral/written language, the word, the swallowing, the spatio-temporal orientation, the management of the money or the memory.

Logopedy and orthodontics :

Patients are sent to our consultation mostly by their orthodontist in order to facilitate their care, accelerate the current treatment or to finalize an orthodontic treatment. Twenty sessions spread over a period of maximum one year will help the patient breathing through the nose again, restoring the muscular balance between the tongue and the labio-juguale belt by correcting the lingual malposition during the swallowing and the phonation. With specific exercises adapted to every patient, the therapist makes sure that the swallowing mechanisms are in good shape. An active participation of the patient will be required during the session and at home, where the execution of appropriate exercises will assure the success of the treatment.

Logopedy and swallowing troubles :

Not only premature babies can have difficulty in swallowing but also those who have orthodontic devices and can't swallow correctly. We welcome patients of any age: those who have had neurological problems or the elderly whose swallowing functions can be less efficient. The logopedist tries to restore the swallowing functions, to reduce the risks of choking, to find different ways to ease the pain and to stimulates the patient's taste.

Logopedy and voice :

The vocal problems are more and more frequent and touch both child and adult. Indeed, teachers, singers and actors are not the only ones whose voices can be damaged. "Our voice is the reflection of our soul". Several factors can explain vocal troubles and sometimes a cordale pathology like nodules can be seen. The aim of the thearapy is to improve the breathing quality by trying to obtain a more costo-abdominal breath, by learning to manage it better and by coordinating the sound and breath. The posture and the general attitude will be taken into account. The contribution of the manual therapy will allow us to prepare the ground for the treatment for the classic vocal therapy. An even more specific vocal therapy will be programmed for patients having undergone a surgery (cordectomy, laryngectomy, thyroïdectomy). For them it is sometimes necessary to establish another type of communication while preparing them to accept their new voice.

Logopedy and manual therapy :

"The art of manual therapy improves mobility and helps restoring the tissular limitations that damage the body functions. An optimal mobility of these tissues in an holistic context facilitates the functional integrity of the vascular, nervous, articular, muscular, glandular and fascial systems. The techniques of normalization intervene at two levels: local and holistic The normalization of tissues releases the muscles and fascias tension and thus improves the liquid and nervous communication ways. It also increases the capacity of auto-normalization of the body and make the homeostasy possible". The manual therapy adapted to logopedy is used for all our patients whether they suffer from neurologic, orthodontic, swallowing or voice problems.
